No PSOs Overnight for Heatherdale and Ringwood East Stations

The Premier has blown his weekend public transport budget by $33.6 million – equivalent to four Primary School rebuilds - but has also announced that Heatherdale and Ringwood East stations won't have PSO coverage under his new, late night trial.

Local residents using the 24 hour train services will not be protected by Victoria Police Protective Services Officers at Heatherdale and Ringwood East Train Stations during late night or early morning services.

The former Coalition Government previously warned that this trial had not been fully costed but Daniel Andrews barreled ahead regardless. The result is a service that’s not safe for all Melbournians.

Pushing ahead with PSOs at Melbourne’s train stations was a major priority of the former Government. The scheme’s success is well recognised, with passengers reporting feeling safer and more willing to travel by public transport at night due to the presence of PSOs.

"It is one thing to commit to 24 hr Public Transport on weekends, but another to bungle the funding and take short cuts on safety."

“Residents and visitors using Heatherdale and East Ringwood Stations should not have to put up with reduced security and assistance at their stations because Daniel Andrews can't add up."
