If elected, a Matthew Guy Government will contribute $100,000 towards much-needed cricket and netball training facilities at Norwood Sporting Club.
The Norwood Woodettes Netball Club was founded in 2014 and is now an integral part of the broader Norwood Sporting Club. It is currently the largest represented club in the EFL Netball League with teams in three divisions, and is the reigning Division 2 Premiership team.
This vital new training facility will enable the netball club to continue to attract new players, and help them to develop better skills.
Importantly, this new outdoor facility will be built as a dual purpose training zone with updated nets for Norwood’s 200+ cricketers to practice, including 5 senior mens teams, 6 junior teams, and 1 female senior team.
Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give a massive $225 million of taxpayers’ money to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, the Liberals are getting behind cash-strapped local sporting clubs who desperately need our support.
Comments attributable to the Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:
“A Liberal Government will invest more money for community sport in Ringwood to manage the demand of a growing population.
Dee Ryall has been doing extensive work in the local community to support the growth at Norwood Sporting Club and has advocated strongly for this funding.
Daniel Andrews’ priority of building a ballroom at Etihad stadium is all wrong. A government I lead will direct every dollar it can from that deal to community sport.”
Comments attributable to Member for Ringwood, Dee Ryall:
“Norwood Sporting Club has made a huge contribution to the health and wellbeing of the community. This new dual-purpose training area will give Norwood Sporting Club the facilities it needs to encourage more people to get involved in local sport.
Victorian’s love their footy, but there’s simply nothing fair about Dan’s deal with the AFL when grassroots sporting clubs like Norwood, must go cap-in-hand and ask for a loan and pay it back with interest.
Only a Guy Government will ensure that our hardworking community groups and sporting clubs get the funding they require.”
