$72,000 facelift for Nunawading Tennis Club

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $72,000 to court resurfacing at Nunawading Tennis Club.

Nunawading Tennis Club has been a much-loved part of the local community for more than 50 years. In the beginning, the club hired two courts for play. Today it has a multi-purpose pavilion and seven en-tout-cas courts.

Resurfacing courts is an expensive exercise for local tennis clubs. The courts at Nunawading Tennis Club are in varying states of disrepair including worn lines and uneven surfaces.

Nunawading Tennis Club is a thriving, family friendly club with more than 260 members participating in tennis competitions including junior and senior tennis, night tennis, pennant and mid-week ladies. The club also has over 200 people who take part in coaching and training programs such as Hotshots, Fitness Squad and Cardio Tennis.

Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give the AFL a massive $225 million free kick to upgrade facilities at Etihad Stadium, the Liberal Nationals are getting behind local sporting clubs to ensure they have the facilities they need to continue to grow and flourish.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:

“Dee Ryall has been doing extensive work to support the growth at Nunawading Tennis Club and has advocated strongly for this funding.

“The Liberal Nationals won't hand over millions of dollars to the AFL to spend on Etihad Stadium. Our goal will be to prioritise funding to our suburban and country sports clubs.”

Comments attributable to Member for Ringwood, Dee Ryall:

“Local sporting clubs, like Nunawading Tennis Club need safe, good quality facilities to encourage more people to play.

“As a kid I played many sports, including tennis. I learnt so much from those experiences and that’s why I’m passionate about local sport and the benefits it brings to so many in our community."
